Portfolio Element 5 Professional Development– Training Experience
Think of a professional development activity you offered this semester to adult learners, either in formal professional development, coaching, staff or team training, etc.
Describe the professional development.
The professional development session was on Nearpod. Many teachers are familiar with the program and understand how to create lessons. In this PD session teachers explored how to create student paced and teacher paced lesson with blended learning components. Teachers worked in small groups with their laptops and completed both a student paced as well as a teacher paced lesson. By doing both the student and teacher paced lesson teachers experienced flipped and blended learning models.
What strategies did you use to differentiate between advanced and novice learners?
Multiple strategies were used during the session for advanced and novice learners. Think-pair-share was used throughout the lesson for participants to communicate with their peers and myself what they were learning through their experience. The session was setup as a student paced lesson so that participants could work at their pace and receive help when needed from myself or co-presenter. This was done to model how teachers could create student paced lessons using blended learning strategies with the Nearpod platform.
How did you evaluate your success? Provide documentation of the experience.
Throughout the PD session participants completed surveys and short quizzes to check for understanding and progress. At the end of the session participants completed a formal evaluation of the PD session. Examples and results are below. I have evaluated that this PD session was a success by how teachers have used Nearpod after the PD session. All the teachers that attended the session are using Nearpod in their instruction and have shared their knowledge with their PLC.
