Vision Statement
My personal vision of an Instructional Coach can be summed up in the quote below from NBA coach Doc Rivers.
“I’m not going to coach you to who you are.
I’m going to coach you to who you should be someday.”
As professionals we should have the mentality to improve our practices as educators, not with the impossible goal of perfection but the idea of doing what is best for students. The 2020 – 2021 school year has come with a plethora of challenges and uncertainties, especially when it comes to the way teachers provide instruction in the classroom and online to their students. My job as an Instructional Coach is to support student learning in and out of the classroom by providing resources and training opportunities for teachers on high impact instructional strategies and methods. It is important, when planning instruction, that teachers focus on high effect strategies. I believe that great instruction can occur regardless of the medium in which it is presented. My vision is to incorporate best practices driven by data into the PLCs and into culture of LHS. This will promote data driven, best practice instruction to increase student achievement on EOCs and boost ACT scores.
To maintain accountability, I will be meeting weekly with the admin team to update them on the instructional coaching that has been completed and receive feedback on next steps for LHS teachers. Mrs. Fitzcharles and Dr. Lowe are another piece of accountability, as we will be working together on meeting teachers' needs and completing coaching cycles with them. We will be meeting weekly to discuss walk throughs, Needs Assessments, and administration feedback to identify teachers for coaching cycles as well as schedule and plan Professional Development opportunities. Our goal is to train and model high impact instructional teaching strategies for the rest of the faculty.
To support the vertical alignment of student learning in my building with technology and instructional strategies, I will be meeting weekly with PLC teams to discuss their current curriculum and offer training and modeling through co-teaching experiences.
As an instructional coach, I want teachers to describe me as a partner who is invested in their success as well as their students' success through planning, training, and co-teaching.
As an instructional coach, I want my administrators to describe me as a school leader and an expert in instructional strategies. I want to be described as a coach who helps develop strong instructional practices in teachers through best practice and data driven decisions. I want to be described as a coach who leads them to become the teacher their students need and deserve.
